somewhere warm and crazy

sharon and i were at the movies last night (juno kicks ass by the way) and started talking about the mainline. this conversation of course was inspired by the gaggles of prepubescent girls jumping around in their authentic uggs, clutching their coach purses, and talking 90 miles per hour on their brand new cell phones.

this area makes me so angry. the mainline is, for the most part, a little pocket of ignorance in a world that's falling apart. everyone is so isolated by their wealth and refusal to shake off their tunnel vision.

not only are people sheltered from the sorrowful, tragedy-struck world around them, but they seem to condemn what little diversity exists locally. be it race, religion, sexuality, or status, individuality appears unacceptable.

i could go on for hours about this. i'm grateful that i live in a relatively safe area and i'm thankful for the education i (and will continue to) receive. it's just that the narrow-mindedness of the general population around here is getting to be too much for me.

I LOVE THAT LINE! Its just soo true [which makes me so sad.] We live in a place that is really influential, and has the power to change things for the better. Yet everyone just turns the other cheek, and allows abominations like this to happen right under there eyes.

ps: I AM TOTALLY THE 1st ONE TO COMMENT! <3

Other than cleaning up a bit of your punctuation, sentence structure, etc. (yes, I know, I'm a freak about English), you've got some nice pearls of wisdom. As Sharon said, the line about the "little pocket of ignorance" is good. Great even. Although you might want to add something to prove a little bit of the "world falling apart" point in the sentence after and also to give an example of the condemning diversity.

Okay, now to actually comment on the content... (And yes I know the bit before is completely unnecessary, but hey... may as well put it out there...)

You've got a good point. The "narrow-mindedness", as you put so well, is rather annoying in this community. I actually deal with this at home like you wouldn't believe, considering I love with very very VERY opinionated grandparents... even more opinionated than you, except not in a "diversity and difference is good" kind of way.

My grandmother, being the main offender of the non-discriminatory ideals that I hold (notice the word "ideals"... I don't claim to be perfect in any means), constantly goes on about things she likes and doesn't like about this person and that person, whether or not it's a racist or sexist (or any other 'ist' word you can think of) comment.

I sometimes tell her that she shouldn't say things like that, but she's always saying that she's older than me and entitled to say and think what she wants to. This is one of the main factors in the isolation and ignorance of the people around us. They feel they are entitled.

This is what I think, not what I know. To me there's a difference. To others, there is not.

You're a terrible person, Sharon... Do you realize that? A terrible, terrible person...

And you should also know that (for several reasons...) she isn't exactly fond of you.

And you could work on your grammar and spelling too, you realize...?

Sharon said...

.... stop acting like an english teacher, blogs are informal, so my language is informal

Blogs are also in a place that everyone else in the world can see... Don't you think that even if people think you're an idiot, you shouldn't go out of your way to prove it?

:-D

... are people who use things like "ppl, bbl, ur..."

i treat it informally
so i write informally

deal!

[poor april, we are raping your blog with our randomness]

Poor me... I have to live with seeing all of your mistakes and knowing that whatever I say doesn't make a difference. :-D

I'm only joking. To be honest, I do care a little about other people's writing, BUT (and that's a big 'but' there... or 'butt' as the case might be... hehehe) I don't care so much that if you decide to ignore my advice on it I'll 1)be too hurt to read and consider what you say on your blog, even if you decide that you don't want me to post again and 2)post again with more ranting and raving about grammar, spelling, and the like.

Sorry if I come off that way.

oh dear. that's a good deal of rambling there, sharon and glen.

and i know my grammar/sentence structure/etc isn't perfect. i'm not terribly concerned about it though. you can still understand what i'm saying and that's enough for me.

YAY! Completely agree! The Main Line is egh.

wheee i've had a blog forever and i never use it.
nice rant. i approve.

I have a feeling that a lot of what people are saying is underscored by a bit of teen angst and rebellion.

I do admit to there being good points, but the little "The Main Line is egh" statement by Ello has no stated base, fact, or reason behind it. I'm not saying that about your original post because you backed it up, but when people just say that they "totally agree" or whatsuch, they just want to fit in with others and distance themselves from their parents.
